Daily Devotional (April 22nd): Everything Gone, But Christ … and the Dog

by Aaron Dunlop

MIS85-2

“But no matter what, I was working for God! What a privilege! What an assurance of salvation! God was teaching me how to hold the things of this world lightly. God was teaching me how to use my skills for the Kingdom. God was revealing himself to me through the details of my life and the choices that he put before me. I was driving away from the place, the life, the career, and the people that I knew and loved. But Jesus Christ was more real to me at that moment than any of these material things. Murphy [the dog] licked my face again and I laughed out loud. This was my conversion in a nutshell: I lost everything but the dog” (p. 63).

Reading: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”—Matthew 6:20-21

  1. Excellent series! I came to know the Lord as an adult in my mid thirties and there is so much in this series I can relate to. I needed a reminder of what it is like to become a new creation in Christ. 🙂
