Daily Devotionals: (Feb. 8th): The Reason for Holiness

by Paul Thompson

Reading: Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy.”  Leviticus 19:2

There is no other and no better reason for you to pursue holiness than this: your God said, “For I am holy.” God is a jealous God, jealous of His holiness and His glory. Holiness glorifies Him more than anything else. The pursuit of holiness is never possible without the eyes trained on God’s glory! Peter reminds us that we are “an holy nation” and that we should therefore “shew forth the praises of him who hath called [us]” (1 Peter 2:9). When the Christian runs with the world he shows that God is merciful; when he is holy he shows that God is glorious.”
